Summary

Purpose of the role:
• Main point of contact for Young Carer referral in your designated area
• Carry out school awareness raising activities, delivering presentations, lesson plans, supporting development of Young Carer support groups and the promotion of the Young Carers e-learning modules for both young people and professionals encouraging schools to develop relevant policies and procedures to identify and support Young Carers
• Acting as a point of contact for schools regarding Young Carers in your designated area
• Engage with Young Carers aged from 5 to 24 years old, using a variety of methods including social media, regular newsletters, website, and consultation activities
• Deliver support to reduce the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences that caring can create for Young Carers.
• Co-design and deliver Life Skills programme with Young Adult Carers
• Take the lead, plan, participate, organise, and carry out relevant activities and respite breaks for Young Carers in your designated area
• Organise meaningful consultation with Young Carers about their needs and the development of Connecting Young Carers’ services
• Undertake one to one contact with Young Carers, where appropriate
• To organise, promote and support partnership group activities
• Build supportive and sustainable relationships with partners within the Third, Private and Statutory sectors
• To help Young Carers to access activity grants

Key responsibilities – What you’ll do:
Main tasks
• Main point of contact for all Young Carers’, their families, and professionals in your designated geographical area
• Update and maintain Young Carers Database including the administration of referrals, distribution of welcome information and any other appropriate literature
• Action letters to schools in compliance with Connecting Young Carers referral procedure
• Identify barriers that prevent Young Carers engaging in events and activities and actively endeavour to remove them
• Organise regular online and face to face Young Carer events, activities and respite breaks including carrying out risk assessments, collecting consent forms, arranging transport, keeping young people and their guardians informed, organising venues, food, activities and taking responsibility for the wellbeing of Young Carers and staff
• Distribute information in a variety of formats, e.g. Google Classroom, Young Carer Awareness training, Schools Award, e-modules
• Maintain regular contact with Young Carers by a variety of methods including email, text, and social networking
• Consult with Young Carers individually or as part of a group and ensure there is an actioned focus outcome which is implemented
• Liaise with other agencies, develop, and encourage partnership working
• Signpost, refer and support Young Carers on to other appropriate agencies
• Meet with Young Carers on a one-to-one basis, where appropriate
• Be the point of contact for Young Carer grants, helping Young Carers and their families to complete the forms


Person specification - Knowledge, skills, qualifications and competencies
Essential:
• Relevant and up-to-date working practice with children and/or young people (preferably Young Carers)
• Evidence of working with young people/children
• Ability to design and deliver engaging presentations and training
• Ability/experience of organising and delivering appropriate and fun and safe events for Young Carers
• Good standard of education
• The ability to create effective and sustainable partnerships with families and professionals
• The ability to respond and work with Young Carers in an appropriate, friendly, fun, and sensitive manner
• Good IT skills and understanding of social media
• Excellent communication, time management and organisational skills
• Ability to work to deadlines and prioritise work loads
• Ability to produce relevant and useful information
• Ability to work flexible hours when required
• A working knowledge of Child Protection and the Highland Practice Model
• Willingness to undertake new tasks and contribute to own development
• Understanding and knowledge of the local area.

Desirable:
• Knowledge or experience using Databases
• Knowledge or experience creating digital content
• Evidence of working with Young Carers
• An understanding of the values of the Third Sector
• Ability to drive and access to a vehicle
• A working knowledge/understanding of the Carers (Scotland) Act 2016
• A working knowledge/understanding of the UNCRC Rights of the Child
• Knowledge or experience of Adverse Childhood Experiences work
