About the role
As part of the David Ross Education Trust, Charles Read Academy have access to an unrivalled state school sports programme. In addition to a large number of local fixtures and sports enrichment clubs, we compete against other DRET academies in a range of Trust wide events. These include the Winter Cup at the University of Nottingham, Summer Cup which includes 6 sports, 1300 competitors and a range of Olympic and Paralympic VIP guests and Cross Country Cup hosted at the challenging course around Nevill Holt.
Students also access a range of ‘development days’ including Basketball with Leicester Riders, Rugby with Northampton Saints and Netball with Loughborough Lightning, with ‘All Star’ talent opportunities, overseas tours and performance conference. To support this programme the Academy hosts a Sports Enrichment Officer, and Head of Table Tennis to enhance the department and what we can offer. The programme is unique in the state sector, and with the academy boasting an impressive range of facilities including floodlit 3G football pitch and netball courts, grass pitches and indoor hall, they’re well placed to maximise every opportunity available to our students.
We are proud to be home for the only Table Tennis Performance Centre in the country. The centre hosts young athletes aged 12 – 16, combining their training and education. Accessing over 20 hours of training each week in school and at Grantham College, our scholars have won 8 English Schools titles, competed at the World Schools for England and rank in the top 10 U15 and U13 national rankings.
We run an extended day on a Monday and Tuesday until 4:15 where the whole school is involved in Enrichment. The majority of students choose sport.

We require, for a 29th August 2024 start, an enthusiastic and highly committed person who will be an excellent Teacher of PE, and ideally teach Maths or provide cover 2 days.
