Summary


We are looking for a Community Haemoglobinopathy Physiotherapist who is passionateabout tackling health inequalities and improving access to care for those who are least well served by health services, and who has experience in working with patients with chronic health conditions.

Responsibility for the quality of care delivered within the Community Red Cell Service and for demonstrating quality standards applied.

To be a source of expert advice on physical therapies for Haemoglobinopathies and to support health care and other professionals working with affected people and their families to provide these therapies.

To develop and plan a programme of interventions and a training strategy for other health care professionals to provide physical therapies.
• To contribute as a member of the sickle cell & thalassemia service, to the development of effective physiotherapy services for people living with sickle cell disease, thalassaemia & rare anaemias within North East London (NEL).
• Map the current existing provision in place to support patients with these conditions in the community settings across NEL.
• Provide a specialist physiotherapy service to adults with sickle cell disease including specialist assessment, treatment planning, implementation & monitoring of outcome. The focus will arise from the work packages of the Community Pilot Project, which include wellbeing, & pain management outside of hospital. The principle elements will be;

- Chronic complex pain syndromes. Musculoskeletal problems including avascular necrosis of hips, shoulders & lumbar spine

- Physical therapies to help in managing acute pain episodes-

- Physiotherapy interventions to help with managing fatigue

- Evaluation & support of cardiac & respiratory complications.
• Establish communication networks with a wide and cross organisational group of professionals, associated agencies & client group/family
• Provide expert advice, consultation & training to staff working with this client group across a range of agencies and settings.
• Provide clinical placements for trainee physiotherapists, ensuring that trainees acquire the required skills, competencies, & experience.
• Represent physiotherapy & attend relevant meeting
