Summary


An opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Physiotherapy Assistant position.

As a Physiotherapy Assistant, you would be working in a role based in our Inpatients Service, which covers the specialities of Department of Medicine for the Elderly, Medicine, Orthopaedics, Surgery, Stroke and Neurosciences. Within any of these areas, you would be working with an experienced team treating a range of patients with diverse presentations. The role will require you to support the prevention of deconditioning of patients whilst they are in hospital and promote a re-ablement approach to patients' physical function whilst under the care of Physiotherapy.

The department and the team are friendly and dedicated towards the delivery of an excellent service for all our users as well as committed to service improvements. You will receive excellent training to develop new skills in order to be able to manage a delegated caseload of patients for functional progression and support the Physiotherapists with more complex patients.

To assist in physiotherapy and other Ward / department related duties as directed by, and under the supervision of a State Registered Physiotherapist.

Providing a high standard of assistance to Physiotherapy staff in Inpatient Services in Medical, Surgical, Stroke and Neurosurgery specialties (depending on clinical area).

This may include a rotational scheme that allows experience through the key areas of the role.

To assist Physiotherapists in joint treatments, following advice and indication of the Physiotherapist to obtain a safe and appropriate treatment environment.

To see patients referred by a Physiotherapist and carry own patient caseload.

To treat patients according to agreed treatment programmes, monitoring patient progression and making minor alterations to patient treatment programmes as required.

To frequently work unsupervised reporting back patient progress and informing Physiotherapists of any problems.

To complete team based training in order to obtain a base level of theoretical knowledge and to complete base level competency utilising the Physiotherapy Assistant competency pack.

Apprenticeship opportunity

Staff in these roles may apply for the 4-year Physiotherapy Apprenticeship which we run in collaboration with our partner University. The programme is advertised internally only and recruited on an annual basis. Commencing in a Band 3 role will provide you with an opportunity to apply for the scheme in 2024.
