Summary


We are delighted to offer this opportunity for a Senior Physiotherapist to join the Adult Learning Disability Service. The post holder will be joining the Physiotherapy team consisting of a Specialist Physiotherapist, a Senior Physiotherapist and Physiotherapy Assistants.

The Physiotherapy team contributes to the Community Specialist Health Team, working alongside Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Learning Disability Nurses, Psychologists, Behaviour Therapists and Psychiatry.

This is a part time position and hours of working can be discussed at interview . The team operates Monday - Friday 9am-5pm.

This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside Physiotherapy colleagues and contribute to the specialist clinical care provided by the team.

The service offers specialist training opportunities to support the post holders clinical professional development.

A car driver is essential for this position.


• To where appropriate provide advice to other health professionals, social services, and voluntary agencies.


• To supervise and teach Physiotherapy Technical Instructors, Assistant Practitioners, and students as appropriate.


• To participate in a full Learning Disability Service within the organisation.


• To assess, diagnose and develop individual care/treatment plans for clients with a range of conditions within the Learning Disability Service. Some clients will have highly complex clinical, social and psychiatric needs including challenging behaviour.


• To have good skills of analysis regarding patient needs, arrange assessments and provide sound advice on the provision of aids and equipment, which is in accordance with other professionals views
• To attend and arrange multidisciplinary meetings, care reviews and to maintain good working relationships with medical, nursing and other staff, ensuring adequate consultation at all levels, concerning the assessment and treatment of clients.


• To communication effectively with staff in the Acute Trusts, including physiotherapists, ward staff, Consultants and Specialist Nurses within South Essex.


• To be a source of information for other health professionals by advising and assisting patients and carers in receiving care and treatment from general services when appropriate.

ROLE SUMMARY
• To manage a caseload as a member of a Physiotherapy team, providing specialist assessments and treatments for patients in the community, who have learning disabilities with highly complex acute or chronic symptoms.
• To teach some specialist skills of assessment, analysis and treatment to other physiotherapy staff, health staff and carers.
• To maintain and further develop professional skills to have the ability to progress treatments and services for people with Learning Disabilities.
• To represent the Physiotherapy team and provide sound advice, as agreed within the Service, to other NHS professionals and other agencies.
• To assume some responsibility in the organisation of day to day running of the department.
• To assist with training for students, carers and physiotherapy staff.
