Summary


· To provide abortion information and treatment to clients in a supportive manner, in accordance with the NMC guidelines for Professional Practice, the Abortion Act 1967, the Health & Social Care Act 2008.

· Provide clinical nursing expertise in the field of contraception and responsible for delivering specialist nursing care to patients attending the Homerton Abortion Care Service – with particular responsibility for the care of women having early medical abortion.

· Work closely with the Lead Consultant for Abortion Care to deliver high quality, evidence-based nursing care in all clinics.

· The post holder will contribute to the on‑going development of the nursing roles withinHomerton Abortion Care Service, working closely with early pregnancy and emergency gynaecology services.

· The post holder will ensure that patients receive the necessary care and treatment to enable progress along an agreed pathway of care. This will be achieved through the application of specialist knowledge, skills and practice.

· To assist in the development and implementation of service development, standard setting, clinical audit and benchmarking. To deliver needs-led evidence based care that supports the local and national priorities and policies within the Abortion Service.
