An exciting opportunity is available at the University Hospitals of Leicester. The Antenatal and Newborn screening team are seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to join our team as the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Failsafe Office Manager. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of our screening programs in maternity services.




• The post holder is required to provide leadership, direction and support to the failsafe team, whilst developing effective working relationships, efficient practice and a motivated workforce.
• As office manager provide Human resources responsibilities to the failsafe team, including sickness management and appraisals.
• They will have delegated responsibility for the monitoring of the ANNB screening programmes, supporting the ANNB screening co-ordinator with ensuring the ongoing compliance with national screening standards.
• Take the lead role in the ANNB failsafe team and be part of the recruitment process for the team.
• To ensure and maintain effective communication pathways, within all levels of the multi-disciplinary team, including external agencies when required.
• Delegate responsibilities to other team members including appropriate referral to medical staff.
• Create a non-judgemental and supportive environment for colleagues.
• To act up in the absence of the Antenatal Screening co-ordinator and participate in the day to day functions of the team to ensure effective team working.
• To work as a team player providing a flexible approach to both patients and colleagues.

The successful applicant will provide leadership in the failsafe office and manage the daily monitoring of antenatal and newborn failsafe systems to provide assurance that women receive their screening results in a timely manner. The applicant needs to have excellent computer and communication skills and experience of working in a health care setting, ideally with a working knowledge of the screening programmes and the complexities of the interfaces between primary and secondary care.

The person will have an in depth knowledge of the ANNB screening programmes, in order to monitor them effectively and provide leadership and expertise to the failsafe team. This will include education and training of junior staff and students, developing new ideas to monitor these programmes effectively and provide detailed reports to the screening co-ordinator for assessment and review.

The conditions screened for as part of the ANNB screening programmes are very serious conditions and choosing to have these tests can be anxiety provoking for women and their families and are at times difficult for people to understand. The ANNB failsafe manager will be required to have expert communication skills, in order to explain the tests to women and understand the compassion required to support these pregnant people. Liaising closely with the ANNB screening midwives to ensure women feel supported and understand the choices that are available to them throughout the screening journey.

The failsafe officer will have responsibility to the following antenatal screening programmes:
• Haemoglobinopathy screening
• Infectious diseases screening
• Fetal anomaly screening

The following newborn screening programmes:
• Newborn blood spot screening
• Newborn infant physical examination
• Newborn pulse oximetry screening
