Summary

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly team in the Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU).

SAU is a dynamic department where you'll play a vital role in supporting patients with a variety of different surgical conditions. The Unit is a 13 bedded fast paced unit, providing care for diverse range of surgical conditions for all adult patients. The team is both friendly and supportive, with a strong commitment to providing the highest standards of care. Our aim is to maximise and deliver excellent patient care, reduce length of hospital stay and maintain patient flow.

You will be joining a well-established and friendly team who will provide you with the opportunity to grow and develop as a priority. You will contribute to our fantastic multi-disciplinary team approach to providing exceptional care to all of our patients. To do this you will need to be kind, compassionate, organised, flexible and a great team player.

As a Health Care Assistant (Band 2) You will undertake a broad range of care activities under the direct supervision of a Registered Practitioner, you will also work closely and under supervision of Band 3 HCA’s .

Duties that candidates will be carrying out as part of this role include:
• Maintain a high standard of nursing care under the supervision of trained nurses and escalate any clinical concerns to a senior nurse as required.
• Carry out the daily personal individualised care of patients
• Recording observations

Hospital experience is desirable but not essential as full training will be given. Due to the nature of the unit, you will be expected to work weekends and nights as part of an internal rotation.

Successful candidates will attend the GROW Programme this is the QEHKL enhanced induction programme. This includes mandatory training (the training that all clinical staff at the hospital complete), you will be taught the fundamental skills you need to perform your role and attend the Caring with Kindness programme (essential learning from patient experience). The course is very practical – you will have plenty of time to practice new skills before you start your new role.

There’s never been a more exciting time to join TeamQEH. We’re working on a once in a generation opportunity to build a new state-of-the-art hospital to open in 2030 and we are also carrying out on one of the biggest pieces of digital transformation work we’ve ever undertaken.

Our new electronic patient record (EPR) will replace paper-based patient records from 2026 and will lead to better, safer, joined-up care at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and beyond.

At The QEH we provide a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics and community-based services to around 331,000 people across west and north Norfolk, North Cambs and South Lincs.

We are an ambitious organisation that upholds our values of kindness, wellness and fairness. We strive for continuous quality improvement, recently demonstrated in our 2024 CQC maternity inspection rating our services as ‘Good’, and we are proud to be a place to learn and grow through recognised learning and apprenticeships.

We recognise and reward our 4,000 staff and volunteers, priding ourselves on a community atmosphere and positive team spirit. We have approx. 530 beds across 33 wards and have newly built education and training facilities, a range of modern award-winning centres alongside a talented team of people ready to give you a warm welcome. We love working here and think you will too.
