Mott MacDonald’s Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit delivers both project, programme & commercial management (PPCM) services and advisory solutions across the built environment, defence, energy, water, environmental, transportation, health and care sectors. We deliver tailored solutions that directly address our clients’ key challenges, combining our world-leading project expertise with unrivalled programme delivery capabilities and advisory services. APD delivers services to projects ranging in scale and complexity up to £20bn, through the technical disciplines of programme management, project management, project controls, scheduling, cost management, estimating, infrastructure finance, management consulting, digital consulting and education, health and care management. 

Overview of role

We are looking for consultants with experience of Industrialised Design and Construction approaches, including DfMA and Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), to join our rapidly growing strategic advisory business. You will be driving delivery and growth on our existing and future commissions, as Industrialisation and MMC advisors to some of the biggest infrastructure owners and programmes in the UK and overseas.

We are leaders in the adoption and implementation of industrialised design an construction, helping our clients achieve their ambitions of improved productivity and greater cost efficiency and certainty across the Built Environment. Our team is actively working across multiple sectors including Buildings (Healthcare, Education and Cities), Water & Environment and Nuclear. As an industrialised design and construction consultant, you will play a key role in revolutionising traditional construction practices, by implementing a range of solutions, including DfMA and MMC methodologies to drive the greater use of manufactured solutions in construction. You will work closely with our clients and their delivery supply chains (architects, engineers, manufacturers and construction teams) to optimise the design process, embed digital delivery approaches, develop collaborative delivery models and streamline production processes, that lead to improved outcomes.

Responsibilities:

- Help define clients strategies for the implementation and adoption of Industrialised Design and Construction approaches;
- Collaborate with clients to understand their project or programme requirements, objectives and constraints;
- Conduct feasibility studies and provide expert advice on the application of DfMA and MMC techniques;
- Influence the design process to ensure integration of industrialised construction principles from concept to completion.
- Identify and work with manufacturing and assembly supply chains to develop innovative solutions and / or optimise Value Chains to achieve efficiency, sustainability and cost effectiveness;
- Utilise systems engineering principles to manage interfaces between various systems / components, ensuring seamless integration and functionality;
- Utilise digital tools to implement requirements management processes to harmonise, rationalise and digitise project requirements, ensuring clarity, consistency and traceability throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to delivery teams on the implementation of DfMA and MMC strategies;
- Analyse supply chain data and performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement and optimisation.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, optimisation and knowledge sharing.
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices and emerging technologies related to industrialised design and construction.
- Support the production of proposals and shape our offering to clients.
- Support the commercial success of our projects.


Candidate specification

The below is a set of general candidate requirements. However, this is a multi-position role so we’re not expecting you to bring all of these skills, but we’d like you to have a blend that suits your particular specialisms to this role :

The roles or specialisms we’re looking for includes:

- Manufacturing and Assembly experience
- Building Services experience
- Structural / Architectural engineering experience
- Systems Engineering experience
- Supply chain ecosystem management experience


Essential Skills:

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field;
- Proven experience in industrialised design and construction, with a strong understanding of DfMA and MMC principles;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders;


Desirable Skills:

- Experience working on programmes or projects across different sectors including Buildings (Healthcare, Education, Defence, Nuclear etc.), Water and Environment and / or Transport infrastructure (Airports, Metros etc.) is preferred
- Proficiency in digital delivery and the understanding of the key role it plays in supporting the implementation of DfMA approaches;
- Strong analytical and problem solving abilities, with a strategic mindset to drive innovation and process improvement;
- Familiarity with requirements management tools and methodologies is a plus.
- Relevant certifications or memberships in professional organisations (e.g. Lean Construction Institute, BuildingSMART) are a plus.
- An awareness of manufacturing and assembly processes, including materials selection, fabrication methods, and assembly techniques, to inform design decisions and enhance constructability.
- Understanding of supply chain ecosystems for Industrialised construction, including key market players, logistics challenges and procurement processes.
- Enthusiasm to become involved in and support wider initiatives within Mott MacDonald;
- Willingness to support in the sale and projection of our advisory services
