A vacancy and opportunity for an Asthma Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Royal Brompton Hospital has arisen. The role includes;

Acting as an expert resource for staff, patients and carers associated with difficult asthma based on best practice with close communication with the Asthma team.

An expert resource in Asthma both locally and nationally

Deliver elements of research researched based care .

To participate in the development of new services and research.



- Leading on the systematic assessment of refractory asthma clinic

- Attending Biologic MDT's and prescribing Biologics

- Supporting the nursing team with unwell patients and using non medical prescribing and advanced clinical assessment skills where necessary

- Leading on the regional network meeting

- undertaking service development, audits and research to highlight the work of the service

- working closely with the research team to deliver the day to day aspects of the research studies

The severe asthma team at the Royal Brompton site have 1600 patients on Biologics, we serve an extensive network with spoke sites. The asthma service has 2 consultants and 5 asthma nurses. The team have weekly MDT's whereby 20 patients are discussed to start Biologics. We hold annual regional network meetings and a lot of the role is to not only support and educate Brompton nurses but also nurses within the regional network.
• As referred by the Asthma Consultants provide on-going care, treatment and advice to a defined group of patients via remote working technologies and face to face in outpatient clinics independently and as part of the MDT.
• To be hospital based providing direct care, education and support for patients and acting as a specialist resource when liasing with and facilitating the best use of all available services.
• To deliver one stop difficult asthma day case service with Consultant colleagues. Ensuring safe effective service that meets commissioners requirements and reduces waiting times for assessment
• To advise, educate and support nursing and medical staff to assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care for adults with asthma.
• To support the allergy nurse and liaise with the allergy team in managing difficult asthma patients
• To advise, educate and support Asthma nurses delivering the Biologic service
• To act as an expert resource for adults and their families, giving advice, education and support that is appropriately planned to meet each individual's needs empowering them to manage their treatment regime.
