To support, a big service with high demands and explore career pathway opportunities for experienced OT’s, we have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Occupational Therapists (8a) to lead the Medical and Elderly care team in this change and development.



This posts will explore and develop the unique opportunities for rotational staff to develop crucial professional competencies, knowledge and speciality skills. This post will ensure the team works within or start the process towards national guidelines based on evidence based practice. Beside this they are focused on improving the overall service provision and patient outcomes and satisfactions within this unique speciality. This team has one of the highest demands in the acute setting which often leads to the incorrect reputation of it being about discharge planning. This role will have the opportunity to change this and make this team imbed, and share with the service, the value of holistic OT provision in a rapid environment.



While this post is based in Wexham Park Hospital, during the initial fixed 2 year period, a close working relationship with the Frimley OT site and team means occasional site visits are required. The aim is to establish this role within the service to potentially explore a long term APP role which would be a part of the role to explore and evidence.



This is a really exciting time for the Therapies services across Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. You will be a senior member of the Therapies team and be expected to influence and develop service for those patients being referred to the Care of Elderly and Medicine OT speciality, ensuring that services are aligned and managed in a collaborative manner. Your role in the team will include clinical, operational and strategic components.



All therapy 8a Advanced Practitioner roles are expected to work closely with peers to provide high quality patient care and will include a high proportion of clinical work. As the Medical/COE Principal OT you will support and closely work with the Principal OT & Physiotherapy on site to develop, change, introduce and manage strategic requirements.Building strong relationships with specialty Team Leads as well as the Directorate Leadership will be key in delivering on our aspirations.



Clinical duties will for example include liaison with multi professional, multi-agency colleagues to ensure patients receive the right level of care at the right time in the right setting; support and education of all OT staff in delivering Occupational Therapy; embedding quality standards in day-to-day practice. You should also expect to provide assessments, interventions or reassessment of patients with complex requirements to support clear discharge planning.

Be the Professional OT Principal Lead for our acute Medical and Care of Elderly services. Develop a robust identity of OT within the speciality with clear learning and development competencies for all staff in this team including those rotating in and out of this speciality. Develop evidence based guidelines to optimise use of capacity and ensure a high level of therapy provided to those requiring OT in the acute setting of this medical and care of elderly speciality. Work towards developing a new career pathway for senior acute OTs specialised in medical and or care of elderly services.
