Summary


The Infection Control Nurse is a key member of the Infection, Prevention and Control Team (IPC) and is expected to be highly skilled and knowledgeable in IPC practice and priorities in reducing hospital acquired infections. You will act as an advisor, disseminating specialist skills and knowledge and be visible, accessible and approachable to staff, patients and visitors acting as a role model at all times.

Through analysis of data and audit programmes they will ensure high standards of care are being delivered and maintained in terms of prevention and control of infection and instigate remedial action and monitoring as necessary.

Day to day management of infection control issues including outbreaks, providing staff support and running Incident Management Team meetings (IMTs).

Visiting patients to inform them of their infection and providing ongoing education to clinical staff.

The ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team for the benefit of the patients is essential.

The confidence to make clinical decisions and empower to staff to adhere to infection control guidance.
