Summary

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for detailed job description of the role.

An exciting opportunity has become available to support the leadership of a busy ophthalmology outpatient department. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who demonstrates great professionalism, has existing leadership skills that they would like to further develop and who wants to be part of a growing department and team.

Our service supports clinics in both SEU and Lymington and the candidate would be based in Southampton eye OPD, and would be required on occasion to support leadership and services in our Lymington base.

This is a full time position which supports a good work life balance with clinics currently running Monday-Saturday.

Although this is an Ophthalmology OPD position, knowledge and experience in ophthalmology is not essential, training can be given. Strong leadership skills would be positive.

If this is an opportunity you are interested in, would strongly recommend contacting the Senior Sister for further information and possible informal visit.

As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

Due to the nature of this role and service, this role is on-site and the hours are as advertised.
Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you need, and we will explore what’s possible for the role and service. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.

Responsible for assisting the senior sister in the day to day management of the eye OPD, ensuring high standards of care are maintained and available resources are utilised effectively. The successful candidate would need to be a forward thinker and adaptable to an ever changing environment. They would need to be motivated and to be able to motivate others. They will need to demonstrate clinical expertise, act as a positive role model. As a band 6, they would need to facilitate a good learning environment for staff and learners.
