Summary

The Movement Disorders service at St Georges is a predominantly outpatient based regional service that provides assessment, investigations, advice and treatment to patients with all forms of Movement Disorders. The service acts as a secondary care service for South West London and a specialist tertiary referral service (including advanced PD therapies) for Southwest London, Surrey and beyond, working collaboratively with Consultants at the DGHs. The team provide an in-patient liaison service for patients admitted with Movement Disorders to St Georges, principally via the PD CNSs within the team. The team runs regular outpatient clinics including sub-specialist movement disorders with expertise in dystonia, ataxia, tics and complex Parkinsons disease, requiring advanced therapies. We have the fastest expanding Movement Disorders Surgery service in the UK (Mr Erlick Pereira, Consultant Neurosurgeon) and the postholder will be expected to support that clinical and academic service. There is a large botulinum toxin service treating many forms of dystonia and also tremor, in some cases working with ENT colleagues and treating more complex cases with EMG and/or USS guidance. This new post is to support growing demand for the regional service and to support anticipated service developments in Movement Disorders Surgery. The post holder may contribute to all aspects of neurology including the Attending rota on the Neuroscience Ward (4 weeks a year) and the Neurology on call rota (1 or 2 weekends per year). Neurology on calls are Category B low frequency.
