Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult Inpatient Eating Disorders (ED)

Permanent, Full-Time 10PAs
(Part -Time applications welcomed)



The post holder will provide psychiatric and medical assessment and management of adults with ED in the specialist inpatients Eating Disorders Unit. They will be well supported by a team of junior doctors (ST, CT and FY2), and a multidisciplinary team.

The post holder will provide clinical leadership and consultation within the team and work collaboratively with colleagues across the service, including the intensive community treatment and day patient services, as well as other stakeholders, including acute hospital partners.

Vincent Square Eating Disorder Service is an all age ED Service with a vibrant and skilled multidisciplinary team working across a a variety of evidence based treatment pathways targeted to the specific needs of different groups of patients.

Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust specialises in caring for people with a wide range of physical and mental health needs. CNWL provides the following clinical services:
• A range of community health services, including adult and child physical and Dental care services.
• Palliative Care
• A range of mental health services, from early intervention and psychological therapies to inpatient or long-term rehabilitation care.
• Specialist mental health services for children and adolescents.
• Substance misuse services for drugs, alcohol provided in the community and a medically managed detoxification service.
• Specialist addiction services.
• Inpatient, outpatient and day patient eating disorders services.
• Inpatient and outpatient learning disability services
• Mental health, addictions services in many HM Prisons and YOI
• Sexual and reproductive health services

Both CAMHS and Eating Disorder services have grown considerably over the last 7 years and very significant new investment is currently coming into services as part of the Long Term Plan.

Clinical Work

1. To provide clinical leadership within the Inpatient pathway.

2. To provide consultant responsibility for patient care within this pathway.

3. To diagnose patients with an ICD10 code at assessment and ensure that these are documented appropriately.

4. Participation in the weekly MDT meetings, providing leadership, supervision and consultation for the teams.

5. Consultation to other members of the multidisciplinary team regarding the management of risk.

6. To work with the ward manager, day patient manager and NL AED PC to manage flow of referrals, assessments, admissions, discharges and waiting list.

7. To provide pre-admission assessment and planning meetings for patients and their families/carers.

8. To attend inpatient community meeting at least weekly on a consistent day.

9. Contribute to CPA/discharge planning meetings as appropriate.

10. MHA work including MHA assessments, report writing, tribunals and hearings.

11. To provide comprehensive assessments for complex clients, which may sometimes require travel to paediatric wards in any of the NW London acute hospitals, or specialist ED inpatient units.

12. Liaison with ChelWest acute hospital services, including maintenance of good working relationships and effective MEED pathways.

13. Provide RC cover for ED patients on ChelWest adult wards.

14. To support the maintenance of a psychologically minded, open clinic culture.

15. To regularly attend the weekly Staff Group, Continuing Professional Development sessions and Consultant meetings.

16. To manage, and provide training and psychiatric casework supervision for Psychiatry trainees in the service.

17. To provide cross cover for Consultant Psychiatrist colleagues in the Eating Disorder Service.

18. To be an active member of the service line Senior Leadership Team.

19. Work along with other MDT colleagues to developthe Inpatient team.

20. Participation in the development of new models of service to improve delivery and outcome, taking into account the views of commissioners, service users and evidence of best practice.

21. Participation in development of clinical protocols as required.

22. To maintain accurate and up to date clinical records.

23. To participate in the administration patient information systems and ensure that data are entered in accordance with service policies and guidance.

24. To contribute to collection and monitoring of Clinical Outcome data across the service.

25. To liaise with statutory and non-statutory sector agencies concerning the treatment and management of patients.

26. To ensure discharges are managed in accordance with service policies and guidance.

27. To complete and contribute to the completion of Serious Untoward Incident Reports as required.

28. To work in accordance with service policies and guidelines.

29. Maintaining up to date Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
