Summary

The Lambeth Acute Occupational Therapy service is in the process of transition with a move to the purpose built New Douglas Bennett Unit due later this year, with facilities including a brand new gym, ADL kitchens, sensory integration room, and a roof garden. We are looking for a senior occupational therapist to join our team who will be able to support the transition towards a new way of working there.

We are seeking an imaginative and assertive clinician to work across two wards delivering appropriate occupational interventions for an intensive care unit and a male acute ward. You will work two days on and intensive care unit and 3 days on an acute male ward. You will be a key member of the multi disciplinary teams as well as being part of a stable and supportive occupational therapy team.

We welcome applications from people with lived experience. We welcome applications from people with links to the local area. We advocate strongly for a culture which values, respects and celebrates diversity. As an equal opportunity employer, we actively encourage LGBTQ+, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic and disabled applicants and value the positive impact and difference this will have on our teams and the organisation as a whole.

Ensure that the two wards have access to a therapeutic programme with a recovery focus. One of the wards has an activity co-ordinator with whom the post holder will be expected to collaborate.

Build robust and supportive relationships with service users and carers for the duration of admission

Maintain professional relationships as a senior team member whilst retaining a sound understanding of the need to ensure a strong occupational therapy presence on the ward.

Ensure a strong focus on service user employment across the designated ward(s)

The OT team works closely together to maintain a strong professional profile and to support one another across the range of wards served here. There are fortnightly business meetings, protected time for CPD, a regular space to present and discuss cases with community colleagues, and opportunities to develop supervisory skills in taking students and supervising a band 5 occupational therapist.

Undertake complex occupational therapy assessments for client and take a lead in promoting service user employment on the ward(s)

Undertake home visits and visits to community resources where indicated.

Oversee and supervise the work of the apprentices allocated to the ward(s)

Ensure that interventions have outcome measures

Ensure service users have access to a recovery focused, regularly reviewed therapeutic timetable in partnership with Arts psychotherapies, psychologists, peer workers, Alliance partners , service users and carers.
