The Transformation Unit (TU) is offering a unique opportunity for up to three people to work alongside a dedicated team of transformation specialists, delivering high profile improvement programmes which support the growth and development of the NHS.

Apprentice Associate Consultants will support healthcare transformation projects alongside completing the Level 4 Associate Project Manager ApprenticeshipLevel 4 Associate Project Manager Apprenticeship, a recognised and valuable qualification. This 18-month apprenticeship programme covers all aspects of planning and delivering complex projects and will provide Apprentices with the foundations to enable them to build a successful career in project management.

Successful candidates will develop their project management consultancy skills and behaviours during the Level 4 Associate Project Manager Apprenticeship in several ways. This will include interactive webinars, self-study, and a range of practical experiences as part of project teams within the TU.

The apprenticeship has been designed for people actively supporting the management of projects and covers the following seven learning areas:
• Project Management Tools & Techniques
• Regulation and Legislation
• Business Requirements and Objectives
• Managing Information
• Managing Stakeholders
• Research
• Analysis and Evaluation.

Apprentice Associate Consultantswill be required to commit fully to an 18-month programme, consisting of 1 day per week study and 4 days per week project work. To successfully complete the apprenticeship, Apprentices will be required to deliver a presentation and professional discussion, underpinned by their portfolio of evidence and the delivery of an end-to-end project.

The TU will support Apprentices throughout their programme, offering them the required project exposure and opportunities to succeed, whilst also providing comprehensive pastoral support. The TU ensures every team member has a Health and Wellbeing Plan which reflects the support an individual needs to thrive in the TU and is updated on a monthly basis.

The TU is an NHS organisation which operates as an NHS Internal Consultancy, meaning it provides targeted expertise and a range of services tailored to the needs of each client. Our clients are typically other NHS organisations but can also include a range of different bodies across the health and care sector. The TU offers a more cost-effective offer than other external commercial consultancies due to the fact that the TU is ran by the NHS, for the NHS.

The TU is hosted by NHS Midlands and Lancashire (ML). The TU works with clients to ensure that change is delivered within a strategic context and drive forward new thinking in how public services can be delivered differently. This includes making services more effective, more efficient and achieving better outcomes for patients and service users.

The TU is innovative, with a track record of successfully delivering complex transformation programmes and major service reconfiguration. The post holder will support the TU to ensure that programmes and projects are planned and managed effectively.

Main tasks:
• To develop project and programme management knowledge and skills by working in a defined Apprentice Associate Consultant development role.
• To commit to and successfully complete the Level 4 Associate Project Manager Apprenticeship in the allocated timeframe.
• To support small or large scale transformation projects and programmes within the TU portfolio, taking responsibilities for specific elements.
• To develop and utilise project management skills, for example, development of project plans and Gantt charts, risk and issues management, monitoring and co-ordination of tasks, planning and execution of engagement activities, development of project deliverables.
• To contribute to planning and delivery of stakeholder engagement with clinical and non-clinical staff to build the relevant components of the transformation change process.
• To support the creation of project documents and healthcare business cases. This will include drafting content and making amendments and corrections.
• To support the planning, organisation and running of events with staff, patients, and the public, including preparing content for events, meeting and greeting, taking notes and minutes.
• To contribute towards the organisation and planning of project meetings (virtual and face-to-face) and multiple, complex workshops/events according to a standard set by the TU and within the constraints of a complex timetable and budget.
• To provide quality project and programme updates/reports to the project team as requested.
• To understand and interpret simple data sets and support with translating the relevant data into a presentable written format.
