Summary


We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and knowledgeable BMT Data Manager to join our expanding service here at Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital.

As the Paediatric BMT Data Manager you will be responsible /for the high quality capture, processing and submission of complex clinical data from clinical systems within the Trust, ensuring the data is handled in a timely manner in line with EBMT recommendations. This includes transfer of clinical data from source documentation to paper or electronic Case Report Forms as required by EBMT. Your role will involve communication with hospital Trust colleagues and external agencies such as Anthony Nolan and Cord Blood Banks. You will be the primary point of contact for data queries generated by external sources, EBMT Working Parties , BSBMT, Anthony Nolan and internal sources, nursing staff, transplant consultants and junior doctors, to ensure that any data anomalies which are found are rectified and the cause determined to prevent recurrence.

To ensure accurate data collection, collation and analysis for clinical, audit and research purposes within the Haematology Department; specifically Bone Marrow Transplant Unit to provide such data to International, national, regional and local agencies/other agencies where applicable.

I would recommend the candidates arrange an informal visit to the Unit prior to interview to gain a valuable insight into the requirements of the role.

Timely capture of complex clinical data from source documentation i.e., Transplant schedules, BMT Shared drive patient folders, HIVE (Electronic Patient record system) ensuring that data is accurately entered onto the appropriate paper or electronic Case Report Forms.

To build and maintain effective working relationships with staff members both throughout the Trust and with external and international agencies i.e., BSBMT and EBMT, Anthony Nolan, other Hospital Trusts.

To follow the relevant BMT Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with respect to the Data Protection Act, the Freedom of Information Act and ICH Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP).

To work alongside other Data Managers and Data administrators with the data entry and configuration tasks necessary to support the BMT Electronic Database (Access) and administration systems already in place.

To be responsible for responding to data queries within their set timeframe and liaising with the study associates.

Access data from the Trusts patient information system (HIVE) in compliance with the Data Protection Act.

Responsible for the accurate and timely completion and submission of all BMT Case Report Forms for submission to the European Blood and Marrow Transplant Registry at Day 0, Day 100- and 1-year intervals.

Providing appropriate and accurate information to other organizations and departments as required.

Key duties and responsibilities

Responsible for creating and maintaining databases for the Haematology Department (Data Capture)

Data Retrieval, Analysis and Validation:

To work alongside the current Data Manager and Data Administrator in delivering an efficient and effective information service to internal and external clients. Acting on routine and ad hoc information requests in a timely manner, collecting and entering data, undertaking data analysis and ensuring accurate and user-friendly reports are produced.

To be responsible for responding to data queries within their set timeframe and liaising with the study associates.

Access data from the Trusts patient information system (HIVE) in compliance with the Data Protection Act.

To assist the Quality Manager/Assistant Operational Manager for BMT in collating, reporting, analysing and disseminating data which is to be used to consider service improvement initiatives within Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

Data Submission

Responsible for the accurate and timely completion and submission of all BMT Case Report Forms for submission to the European Blood and Marrow Transplant Registry at Day 0, Day 100- and 1-year intervals.

Providing appropriate and accurate information to other organizations and departments as required.

Responsible for the Information Systems/Software Packages, Training and Support

Ensuring that appropriate data administration systems are created and used accordingly to accurately store transplant information which is easily accessible.

To develop an in-depth knowledge of the information systems/software packages used within the Trust, including the in house developed intranet dataset.

Liaise with investigator sites (nationally and internationally) to keep abreast of relevant updates.

Audit

To participate in the BMT Quality Programme and audit processes where

appropriate, producing reports in an accurate and user-friendly format, helping to maintain data quality standards.

Undertake statistical analyses for research projects

To participate in the induction of new staff, providing support to research nurses with respect to data capture.

To be responsible for identifying own learning needs and maintaining own personal development.

Work alongside other members of the Data Management Team in ensuring that all staff are aware of the principles of data protection and that the Data Protection Act legislation is adhered to at all times.

Attend internal and external meetings as required, in particular the BMT MDT meeting and share information accordingly.

Liaison with staff in the R&D Department to ensure accurate information is collected.



To accurately input data onto the EBMT Registry.

External and Internal Contacts

Regular written/telephone/electronic liaison with national clinical trials centres and trial investigators (national and international

Regular personal contact with haematology/bone marrow transplant consultants for the exchange of data.

Provide monthly reports to National Bone Marrow Transplant Database and senior management team if and when required.

Attend annual meetings of EBMT and registry training as required.

Assist the Quality Manager with data preparation for JACIE inspections.
