An exciting opportunity has arisen forBand 6Oncology Day Unit Sisters (2.36wte) to develop, implement and provide an outreach service for patients who require systematic anti-cancer & cytotoxic treatments into the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital.

We are after motivated and enthusiastic SACT trained nurses to take this development forward and provide quality care for patients on the emergency care hospital site. The post holders will have the opportunity to develop this service, working closely with other clinical teams and the Oncology Day Units.

The candidates will also join the out of hours emergency telephone helpline rota to manage the service during evenings, weekends and bank holidays - this will involve independent decision making to help manage acute care of patients who are unwell offering advice and guidance.

Job share will be considered.

To provide clinical expertise to the Team and develop SACT practice in the NSECH site. To work in close liaison with the Unit Managers, Lead Nurse, Practice Development Team and the MDT to provide the highest quality of care required to support each patient in their pathway and improve the patient experience.

To act as a clinical nurse leader, taking responsibility for the professional development of yourself and other HCP's. Candidates should be able to demonstrate their ability to work autonomously and have excellent communication skills.

Candidates should be working within the SACT service and have significant post registration experience including previous experience (Chemotherapy Enhancing Practice or equivalent) of giving SACT and managing toxicities.

Leadership experience, advanced knowledge , decision-making skills are essential and completion of, or a willingness to work towards the advanced clinical skills course or equivalent would be an advantage.

Develop and provide a flexible Out reach SACT/cytotoxic service into the NSECH site.

Support the Oncology Day Unit Managers as required when not supporting NSECH services in provide a high quality evidence based nurse led SACT service to patients and carer’s. This will include patients attending for day case chemotherapy and patients who may contact the service for acute oncology advice about their care. The post holders will be part of the existing oncology day unit teams.

Provide specialist education and training to other members of the clinical teams.
