About the Team:

The Private Sector Enforcement and Regulations (PSER) team has responsibility to the 34% of Lambeth’s housing stock which is in the Private rented sector (PRS). While the majority of properties in the PRS are well maintained and safe, we are looking for like-minded officers to join our team to help us to utilise all available tools to improve the situation for residents in private rented accommodations. The team is dynamic and made up of officers who cover crucial functions such as HMO Licensing, Enforcement of Privately rented properties, Empty Properties and High Rise Building for Fire safety issues.

Joining the team as an Environmental Health Officer no two days would be the same and your work would be helping to improve the lives of the tenants, educating and working with the good landlords and helping up to tackle and stamp out Rogue landlords in the Borough.

About the Role/Candidate:

This role would suit an individual who is pro-active, dynamic and resilient with relevant skills and experiences to work in our HMO Licensing Team or Enforcement Team.

The successful candidate must be a qualified environmental health officer with HHSRS and have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to have a goal-orientated approach to complex problems. Working as part of a busy team, you will need to have an organised and constructive approach to service delivery, be a great team player, be flexible and approachable and one who seeks continuous improvements.

You must have knowledge of current housing legislation as it relates to private sector housing and be able to take informal and formal enforcement action to remedy instances of disrepair etc. These actions include but are not limited to housing inspections, HHSRS inspections, serving Statutory Notices and attending court.

You should be able to manage and prioritise your caseload, be able to receive and record information accurately within our IT system and be able to undertake detailed surveys of a range of property types.
