The Practice Supervisor role in the Youth Justice Service (YJS) will be an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team, focused on both quality assurance and operational requirements. Providing expert advice, managing complex cases, and taking a supervisory role, in conjunction with the team manager. Contributing to the learning and development plan through supporting practice development across the County.
We currently have two exciting opportunities, one covering South Essex (Basildon and surrounding areas) and the other North Essex (Colchester and surrounding areas)
Other duties will include:
· Holding a small caseload of higher-risk cases.
· Conduct monthly formal supervision of some team members.
· Gate-keep assessments/reports.
· Quality assurance - case audits.
· Development and training - both for the North team as part of SLT and the wider YJS SLT.
· Chairing Case Planning and Review Meetings/Team meetings as required.
· Covering strategic meetings for Team Manager as required.
· Attending professional meetings as required.
The Experience You Will Bring
· A recognised social work qualification i.e., Diploma, degree, or Masters in social work, CQSW, CSS or equivalent, with current registration with the Social Work England as a registered social worker or alternatively a qualified Probation Officer.
· Evidence of continuing professional development, aligned to any relevant Professional Competency/Capability frameworks or Knowledge and Skills Statements.
· Experience of frontline professional social work or criminal justice, working with complex children or young adults.
· Deep and up to date knowledge and understanding of youth justice, children's and other relevant legislation and guidance.
· Experience of mentoring both newly qualified and experienced staff and being a subject matter expert in professional practice.
· Experience of chairing meetings involving young people, family members and/or carers and other multi-agency professionals.
· Developing strong relationships with partners, other agencies, and the local community to achieve joint objectives and offer a supportive framework for young people.
· Proven track record of clear decision making with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

The role requires you to be mobile throughout a wider operational area including travelling around the county of Essex and to visit service users. Driving licence and car or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means is essential.
