Summary


Applications are invited for the position of Consultant Surgeon with a specialist interest in breast and endocrine surgery. This post is to join a team of 5 Consultants who provide specialist endocrine surgical services.

The successful candidate will help to develop the elective oncoplastic breast and endocrine surgery provision across the whole of Teesside, working collaboratively with colleagues in South Tees under the joint group structure of executives leading the Trusts.

The post is structured to provide theatre and outpatient sessions on both the University Hospital of North Tees and University Hospital of Hartlepool sites. The post does not include emergency general surgery activity.



The Department of Surgery provides the complete range of general surgical care with special interest in oncoplastic breast, endocrine, colorectal, bariatric, benign upper GI surgery and urology surgery.

Employment is offered for 10 Programmed Activities under the Terms and Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003.

This post holder will further bolster the significant inroads that have already been achieved in improving both the breast screening services, oncoplastic breast service and endocrine services provided by the Trust and in future throughout Teesside. In particular, this post-holder will be specifically tasked with helping to re-configure and plan surgical endocrine services in Teesside under the joint group structure of North and South Tees.

Experience and competence in the full scope of oncoplastic breast surgery and endocrine surgery is essential. The new consultant will be expected to providea comprehensive oncoplastic breast and endocrine surgical service. The post does not include emergency general surgery on call. The post is based on 10 programmed activities. The candidatewould be expected to provide a service in both malignant and benign breast and endocrine disease. Experience in the management of screen detected breast cancer including breast cancer localization techniques (eg iodine seed, Savi Scout,) is essential to service delivery.
