Summary


Working as a Podiatric Surgery Registrar within a dedicated surgical team of staff including podiatric surgeons, podiatrists, nursing staff, podiatry assistants and support staff to ensure foot surgery services are provided in a coherent manner in order to fulfill contract obligations.

You will be expected to provide general management support within the Team through developing skills as Podiatric Surgery Registrar alongside the Consultant Podiatric Surgeons.

You will be responsible for developing and refining their surgical and clinical skills in podiatric surgery, and will involve assessing surgical patients developing treatment plans, coordinating consent, undertake outpatient assessments, developing theatre and surgical skills, post-operative follow-up clinics as well as staff training, supervision. Excellent IT skills will be required as well as a sound working knowledge and practical use of Electronic Patient Records and PASCOM.

You will need to be flexible to the needs of the service provision and will be expected to keep up to date with clinical and professional developments, exhibit portfolio maintenance and will also take part in research and audit projects. You will need to be well-motivated, flexible and have good clinical, communication and team leading/working skills.





You will be responsible for organizing and maintaining caseloads of patients under the leadership of the Consultant Podiatric Surgeons based upon a planned weekly program leading on to performing autonomous theatre lists.

To work as a Registrar in Podiatric Surgery within a highly motivated team, working in a dedicated foot surgery unit providing a high standard of quality clinical care.

· Assist Consultant Podiatric Surgeon with special projects, improving service delivery, as integral part of surgical team

· Perform joint and autonomous operating theatre lists with supervision, at the discretion of the responsible Consultant Podiatric Surgeon
• Pre-Surgical Assessments, diagnosing pathology, planning and providing treatment
• Administration of advance regional anaesthesia (Digital, ankle and popliteal blocks) and therapeutic injections
• Assist in operating theatre.
• Order and act on imaging investigations, pathology and other clinical tests
• Post-operative clinics, manage surgical and general complications
• Supervision of staff
• Mentoring of new staff
• Maintain departmental policies, protocols and guidelines in line with evidence based practice
• Adhere to PGDs
• Chair specialist team meetings
• Attend the Foot and Ankle MDT with Orthopaedic team
• Be proactive in Trust/departmental audit/research projects/clinical trials
• Participate and contribute to Team Meetings
• Be aware of KPI and 18 Week RTT Requirements
• Write and implement areas of research and audit
