We are looking to appoint a Chief Officer - Children’s Services, Partnerships and Communities & Deputy Chief Social Work Officer who can provide creative and innovative leadership as a member of our senior leadership structure within the Children Young People and Partnerships Division of the People and Partnerships Directorate. Working in Midlothian presents an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to take us forward in our desire to be a high performing, citizen-focused and modern local authority. Working for the fastest growing local authority in Scotland, the Chief Officer - Children’s Services, Partnerships and Communities will deliver forward-looking services fit for a modern 21st Century organisation. The post holder will have a key role leading Children’s Services transformation and will oversee the following service areas:

  • Duty and Early Assessment Teams
  • The Promise/Corporate Parenting
  • 0-12 and 12+ Teams
  • Midlothian Housing project, Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children
  • Family Group Decisions Making Service
  • Two Local Care Homes for children and young people
  • Family Centred Care (Fostering/Adoption/Continuing Care)
  • Reviewing Officers
  • Midlothian Family Wellbeing Service
  • Hawthorn Family Learning Centre

Location: The post is based at the Council Campus in Dalkeith, although the postholder may be required to work anywhere within Midlothian.

Hours of Duty: The contracted hours are 36 hours per week. However, the postholder will be expected to work the hours required to fulfil the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Requirements

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children and adults.
Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children and Adults, You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you.
