University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for a detailed job description of the role.

An exciting unique opportunity has arisen for someone who wishes to develop their career in NHS working for the Thames Valley & Wessex Neonatal Critical Care (ODN) Team to lead on some of the key deliverables of Neonatal Critical Care transformation.

The ODNs are established to deliver whole system work programmes based on the NHS Outcomes Framework and quality standards expressed in NHS England specifications to drive improvements in patient pathways.
The Thames Valley and Wessex Neonatal ODN footprint covers 14 provider units within 13 NHS Trusts.

The post holder will provide expert opinion and consultancy support where appropriate for TV&W Neonatal ODN focussing on medicines optimisation, standardisation and supporting strategic planning on neonatal medication issues.

You will be joining a team who are passionate about NHS service quality improvement for families receiving care in neonatal services. We are therefore looking for enthusiastic and innovative people with excellent communication and a good understanding of neonatal services. This role will be supporting the delivery of the TVW NCCR Implementation plan across the region and requires excellent leadership skills and experience of strategic working within the NHS.

As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

All non-clinical roles may involve a mixture of on site and remote working, Specific details and flexible working options can be discussed as part of the interview process. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.

Key Responsibilities
• Responsible for leading, managing, strategically developing, and delivering highly complex and specialist medicines management services related to newborn preterm and term infants and their families.
• Contributing to the wider health community’s management of neonatal patients and influencing pharmacy practice.
• Provide expert advice at a highly specialist level on pharmaceutical matters relating to neonates. Support the development of guidelines in neonates.
• Lead, plan and undertake clinical audit and research within the specialist area, undertaking commercial research for the trust where appropriate.
• To work with the Network Manager, Professional Leads and Network board to agree on a range of medicines management priorities and monitor key deliverables and purchasing of medicines that will be embedded within the Network NCCR Implementation Plan.
• To develop and lead the implementation of national neonatal medicines optimisation recommendations across the TV&W ODN.

What we are looking for
• Evidence of extensive recent post-registration hospital neonatal pharmacy practice experience at an advanced level. Ideally include previous experience in a teaching hospital and also previous experience working in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
• Highly specialist knowledge of drugs used and therapeutic trends within specialist areas.
• Experience working as part of a regional/national group for guideline/policy/change development.
