Summary


The ultrasound service at Mile End Hospital is expanding as part of a new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC), creating an exciting opportunity for highly motivated and adaptive Sonographers to join our friendly, hard-working, and well supported ultrasound team. The posts will be based at Mile End Hospital with the potential to rotate to The Royal London, St Bartholomew’s, and the North-East London Ultrasound Education Training Academy hosted by Whipps Cross hospital.

The CDC at Mile End Hospital will provide a 7-day service with 12-hour days, offering the potential for flexible working, compressed working patterns and part time work.

The CDC will be responsible for a wide range of subspecialties such as General Abdomen, Gynaecology, MSK, small parts and head and neck. Other specialties such as paediatrics, obstetrics and fertility can also be provided through potential rotation to the other sites.

We welcome applications from newly qualified and experienced Sonographers with multiple skillsets who can scan General, Gynaecology and obstetric ultrasound, all successful candidates will be supported by a preceptorship program and there is the potential for candidates to develop their skills. However candidates must hold either a Pg Cert / Dip / MSc or DMU qualification in Medical Ultrasound and professional registration with a statutory regulated body (such as the HCPC) or the Register for Clinical Technologists.

The post-holder will work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team in Imaging, liaising with those involved to ensure that appropriate imaging, reporting and management of the patient is provided when and where necessary. They will maintain a high professional and technical standard of ultrasound imaging at the newly established Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Mile End Hospital which will be a 7-day service with 12-hour days. There will also be the potential to rotate through The Royal London Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospital.

Our Sonographers undertake clinical work within established quality standards of practice, adhering to Ultrasound guidelines such as those published by BMUS, RCOG, RCR and NICE. The post-holder will work within departmental protocols as a practitioner in the delivery of all ultrasound imaging, reporting and management of the patient.

The post-holder will also liaise with key Lead Nurses, Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in the Women’s Health Division, as well as the Radiologists in the General Ultrasound Department. In the absence of a Lead Sonographer, the post-holder will oversee the day-to-day workload to ensure staff and resources are allocated to the area and managed effectively.

The post holder will promote patient advocacy and communicate effectively with other health care professionals together with outside agencies regarding patient care and progress.
