Summary


Applications are invited for a Burns Fellowship post for a 12 months commencing 2ndSeptember 2024 based at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. The successful candidates will work within the Burns Unit and be involved in both elective and emergency work. This is an un-banded post and will cover weekday activities within the burns service.

This will be the first time that a Burns Fellowship is offered at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and the role will include working within a busy, dynamic, and friendly department and the fellow will be exposed to a wide variety of burns cases and their on -going reconstructive management.



We encourage a learning environment, with regular MDT and departmental meetings. We will expect and encourage your involvement in audit, research and teaching and the successful candidate will present and publish such work as carried out in the Unit.



This is not a training post and does not have specific Royal College or Postgraduate approval. This post would suit a senior plastics / burns trainee who would like to gain further experience in this specialist field. We would welcome applicants from the UK or overseas.



FRCS (Plastics) is essential at time of starting fellowship.

Roles and responsibilities
• Management of burns/plastic surgery cases in the outpatient setting (supervised)
• Management of burns/plastic surgery cases in the operating theatre (supervised)
• Training in the use of laser therapy to manage burns scars.
• Presentation of cases at the weekly MDT meeting
• Ward round review of in-patients and their on-going care
• Research involving Burns surgery-based studies.
• Teaching and support of burns staff

All duties must be carried out under supervision or within Trust policy and procedure. You must never undertake any duties that are outside your area of skill or knowledge level. If you are unsure, you must seek clarification from a more senior member of staff.
