Online applications are invited for the role of Paediatric Senior Fellow (ST3+) in General Paediatrics. This post is a fixed term of 12 months, commencing in September 2024.

Southampton Children’s Hospital is a busy tertiary hospital which covers all paediatric specialties. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills in the management of general paediatric and speciality patients while working in the general paediatric team for ward rounds and the out of hours middle grade rota. In addition, you will be given significant protected time to develop an area of clinical or non-clinical interest from areas such as High Dependency Care, Safeguarding, Quality Improvement or Speciality Paediatrics.

Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role. Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible.

What you’ll do

- Your job plan will cover clinical work as part of the general paediatric team covering acute admissions to the Children’s Hospital and ward based care (in normal working hours), and as part of the middle grade on-call rota coving all paediatric specialities (excluding PICU, NICU and cardiology) during evenings, weekends and nights.

- You will also be allocated significant protected time in your job plan to develop a further clinical or non-clinical interest to complement your future career. This can include, but is not limited to, High Dependency Care, Safeguarding, Quality Improvement or Speciality Paediatrics. Your job plan will be negotiated following a successful appointment.

- You will work alongside consultants and SHOs from Paediatrics, in addition to General Practice trainees and Foundation year trainees.

- You will work closely alongside the paediatric critical care outreach nursing team in providing support to paediatric ward patients from all medical and surgical specialities.

- You will have the opportunity to be involved in the Children’s Hospital’s extensive education programme, with regular training offered from speciality paediatric teams, radiology, safeguarding and departmental case reviews.
What we’re looking for

- An enthusiastic trainee who is keen to develop their skills in the management of general paediatric and speciality paediatric patients in a busy tertiary hospital.

- This role would suit a trainee looking to take time out of run through training or who is looking to develop clinical or non-clinical interests towards the end of their training.

- Ability to work independently out of hours to support the paediatric services with the appropriate clinical skills to conduct this role

- Completion of MRCPCH clinical examination or equivalent

- GMC registration with a license to practice
