We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated ambitious individual to join our well integrated team to support us with our treatment services in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. We offer excellent clinical facilities in our dedicated Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department. The Department spans facilities within the Dental Hospital, RVI, Freeman Hospital and Carlisle Hospital. The post is available from July 2024.
You will be an experienced Dental Surgeon with an enthusiasm to communicate your own knowledge and experience to students and patients. You will have been fully registered with the GDC for at least 3 years and have experience of oral and maxillofacial surgery, including experience of acute patient management via on-call duties. You will be offered a structured induction and support with the opportunity for further educational development. You will assume responsibility for the planning, co-ordination and delivery of specific components of service in partnership with clinical and academic colleagues. The successful postholder may be expected to provide clinical activity in all sites
Clinical:
· Provide a clinical oral and maxillofacial service for adult and paediatric patients both in-hours and out-of-hours during on-call commitment
· Provide assessment and treatment planning for new referrals.
Administrative:
· You will be expected to run and manage outpatient clinics and treatment lists to deliver quality patient throughput
· Undertake patient administration and other clinical, academic and departmental administrative duties and take part in the day to day running of the department
· Undertake general administrative duties within a context of compliance with Directorate and Trust aims and objectives.
· Correspondence to practitioners in and outwith the Trust should be done in a timely manner
· Undergo Continued Professional Development in accordance with guidelines stipulated by the Trust and GDC.
· Participate in all aspects of Clinical Governance, making contributions to audit and risk management activities, and undergoing an annual appraisal.
Research:
· You may contribute to the research efforts of the Department and others as identified by the Directorate
Teaching:
· Undertake clinical teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate practitioners where appropriate
· Provide clinical and educational supervision of trainee hospital dental staff.

The primary aim of the 1.0 WTE Specialty Doctor post is to provide support for the oral and maxillofacial department of the Trust underthe direction of the consultant lead. The post provides an excellent opportunity to develop and use surgical skills and includes contribution to the second on-call rota with appropriate senior support.
The nature of the post requires that candidates should have substantial experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery at DCT level or higher. There are opportunities in appropriate cases for candidates to develop a particular area of interest.
