Summary


Applications are invited for a number of trust grade SHO/FY2 at Croydon University Hospital for a period of one year.

These posts offer the successful candidate the potential to work with General and Geriatric Medicine, there are plentiful opportunities to gain experience in management of a wide range of medical conditions in a friendly and supportive environment.

Croydon Health Services is an innovative integrated NHS trust incorporating acute and community services. As the acute district general hospital within this trust, Croydon University Hospital provides high quality care to the large and diverse Borough of Croydon. It is a busy and exciting place to work within which the candidate could expect to gain excellent exposure to multiple pathologies and training in acute medicine as well as management of chronic conditions.

There is a large and active department of elderly care medicine which offers comprehensive geriatric services and covers subspecialty interests in stroke, orthogeriatrics, movement disorders and dementia. The trust has been nationally recognised as being pioneering in the development of acute frailty services.

The trust operates an active education and training programme and there is the scope for the candidate to be involved in numerous quality development projects.

All posts would incorporate ward work fully supported by a team consisting of a consultant, registrar, fellow SHOs, FY1s and, for some posts, physicians associates.

Additionally the successful applicant would be participating in the general medical/elderly care on call as part of a 18 person rota. This would include shifts covering out of hours ward work, supported by ward FY1s and a dedicated ward cover registrar, and also clerking on call shifts which are robustly supported by both the clerking medical registrar and Acute Medical consultant of the day."

Croydon Health Services NHS Trust provide hospital and community services from a number of community and specialist clinics throughout Croydon.

These include:
• Croydon University Hospital
• Purley Hospital
• The Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Centre in Thornton Heath
• Community bases at Purley, Sanderstead, New Addington, Broad Green, Woodside
• A minor injuries unit in New Addington

The Trust was formed on 1st August 2010 through the integration of Croydon Community Health Services and Mayday Healthcare NHS Trust. Around 3,500 staff provide services for a population of over 360,000 people who are relatively young with a high level of ethnic diversity.
