Summary


An opportunity has arisen for an experienced HCA to Med 2 at West Cornwall Hospital. The applicant must have excellent communication skills and a willingness to learn and undertake new skills.

If you are looking for an exciting challenge and want to be part of a great innovative team , then why not Med 2. We are a 29 bedded unit specialising in eldercare, Trauma and CATU.

We are seeking applications who have the ability and determination to learn and to gain new skills /competencies and who are motivated to develop the highest standards of care and committed to continuous improvement and development.

This is a full-time post for 37.5 hrs per week and does include include nights and weekends.



To contribute to the optimum delivery of care for all patients by assisting all healthcare and clinical staff to meet the needs for this group of patients.

To ensure that privacy and dignity is respected at all times.

To have a good understanding of the complex needs of this group of patients.

To assist the team in providing an excellent service at all times by ensuring a good knowledge of the patient and service requirements.

To establish a rapport with the patient and relatives and an awareness of the individual patient needs, ensuring these are communicated to the Registered nurse.

To have full understanding of the impact of the patient’s condition on their hygiene, nutritional and mobility abilities and needs.

To assist patients, where necessary by the use of appropriate aids/appliance, to achieve physical comfort. This will involve the safe moving and handling of patients to varying degrees dependant on their condition and care needs.

Sustainability is integral to the Trust achieving the NHS Net Zero target. All staff are therefore actively encouraged and supported to implement new ways of working within their field of expertise.

To have full understanding of the patient’s needs and show awareness and sensitivity to their needs.

Carry out observations and recording of patients vital signs in recognition of own knowledge and skill/competence, and in accordance with local protocols. Report any recordings outside of agreed parameters to a Registered Nurse in addition to making a written record on both the observation chart and in Patient Profile and general condition.

To identify the potential for stress and to support patients and relatives in the care environment by demonstrating empathy and understanding.

To provide practical and emotional support to patients and relatives who are anxious/upset.

Whilst maintaining a professional attitude at all times, develop sound interpersonal relationships with patients and colleagues.

To provide and when necessary store, concise, legible and accurate data, maintaining its confidentiality at all times.
