Summary

Would you like to make a difference to the health of vulnerable adults and young people? Would you like a non-traditional role working as part of an NHS clinical health care team? Do you have an interest in supporting people to improve mental health as well as physical fitness? Would you like to support people with learning disabilities?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Fitness Instructor to join our service, based at the Old Chapel Gym on the Countess of Chester Health Park site.

This post is a permanent part time post (0.61 WTE 23 hours a week). The work pattern isMonday 9.30 -16.30; Tues/Wed/Thurs 10.30 -16.30

The service aims to provide a gym service, exercise sessions and health promotion to our service users who are in hospital, within the following areas: Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (Ancora House), Adult Mental Health (Bowmere Hospital) and Learning Disabilities (Eastway inpatient service).

We have an established Fitness and Wellbeing service which is led by a Lead Fitness Instructor. We have a large well resourced gym with modern equipment and an established timetable.

You will be a highly motivated and creative team player with appropriate experience to at least Level 2 certificate (REPS recognised). You will be supported by the Lead Occupational Therapist and Lead Fitness Instructor . The team works closely with ward clinical staff, including Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Nurses.

The post holder will work as part of the Fitness and Wellbeing team in managing referrals, providing induction, developing individualised programs and contributing to the day to day running of the gym.

The team is based at the Old Chapel Gym, as well as running sessions on the wards. All wards are on the Countess of Chester Health Park site.

There is possibility of scope for extra hours on a flexible basis to support service need.

You will be passionate about improving the physical health and wellbeing of vulnerable young people and adults. You will be able to communicate with people from all walks of life and be able to motivate others using a collaborative and supportive approach. This role involves working within a dynamic hospital environment where no two days are the same. The role seldom involves straightforward personal training goals, as we are working with people when they are dealing with health issues during a hospital admission. Your adaptability and communication skills are particularly important to get best outcomes for service users and support their recovery. You will need to demonstrate understanding of working with vulnerable people or people with mental health issues or learning disabilities.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to work within a healthcare environment and/or to explore career options within the NHS.

As an NHS employee, you will have entitlement to paid leave, clinical supervision and access to a range of continuing professional development relevant to fitness and health care.

For an informal chat about the role, contact Maria Yuen, Lead Occupational Therapist on 01244 397288 or Gavin Persand or Donna Cain, Lead Fitness Instructors on 01244 3973100. We can also offer visits or social media links to give you further information.
