This appointment is attached to Willow Ward, Fulbourn hospital. The ward is an 18 bed mixed sex unit for older adults with functional mental illness for assessment and treatment.

The OPMHS offers a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary and community orientated service in Old Age Psychiatry to the population in the geographical area covered. It is supported by modern inpatient areas with good facilities. The Maples is a 22 bedded ward at the Cavell Centre in Peterborough with separate areas for patients with organic and functional illnesses (8 beds and 14 beds respectively). Willow and Denbigh Wards provide beds for patients with functional (18 beds) and organic illness (14 beds) on the Fulbourn site in Cambridge. ECT is available within the service.
Key Tasks Include:

· Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the assessment and management of patients with acute mental disorders.

· To work within the multidisciplinary specialist pathway and share responsibility for day to day management of the services, including the team’s physical health clinics.

· Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students and other disciplines.

· To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance, audit and research.

· To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).

This appointment is attached to Willow Ward, Fulbourn hospital. The ward is an 18 bed mixed sex unit for older adults with functional mental illness for assessment and treatment. The post holder will:

· Provide medical input to the day to day functioning of the Ward including the admission and treatment of the patients.


· Psychiatric reviews of service users supporting a multidiscipline approach.


· Regular participation and contribution to team handovers, ward rounds, and multidisciplinary Care Programme Approach (CPA) reviews.

· Work effectively to facilitate timely discharge of patients from hospital.

· Ensure effective and timely documentation, including admission and discharge summaries, Mental Health Act reports, progress notes, and communicating clinical decision making and management plans to relevant parties.

· Liaise with partner agencies, including acute hospitals, social services, primary care and private and voluntary agencies to ensure effective joint working in the provision of care to service users, for example, in discharge planning.

· To undergo annual appraisal and job planning.

· To contribute to audit activities and ongoing research activities.

· Actively participate in local and trust wide educational activities. The services regularly have medical student attachments and involvement in teaching is encouraged.
