Summary


The roles support and lead on several aspects of undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. There are core responsibilities (e.g. delivery of regular teaching and clinical skills training) as well as educational project work. The role also includes development of simulation training, clinical skills teaching and leading in the organisation and delivery of UCL Medical School OSCE examinations. The posts allow for a half day clinically in a mutually agreed speciality.

The posts will be for 1 year, starting in August 2024. Appointments will be made in line with the stated salary scale (MN37) and with regards to the candidate's previous experience.

There are 2 posts at Barnet hospital and 2 posts at Royal Free hospital but all may occasionally be required to work cross site and at Chase Farm Hospital and UCL.

Posts will involve collaboration with UCL Medical School to ensure that the medical school curriculum is delivered effectively. The post holders will be working with highly motivated and successful education teams, who have been awarded quality awards by UCL medical school. There will be the opportunity to liaise with a network of clinical teaching fellows based across the Trust and UCL peer support and learning. In addition, an honorary contract with UCL medical school can be applied for. You would be supported to undertake a formal education qualification, if desired, as well as participating in educational research and quality improvement.

The Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust employs a team of clinical teaching fellows to deliver and improve the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes and student/trainee experience.

The posts also provide the opportunity to maintain clinical exposure through a half day per week in their clinical base speciality.

Educational leads and clinical teams will determine an exact timetable of duties. In addition to core teaching activities the post holders would be expected to select a primary educational project(s) to develop and deliver during the course of the post.

You will be expected to contribute to the cross site preparation for practice teaching modules and to help organise and deliver UCL CPSA (OSCE) exams- both summative and formative.
• To coordinate and deliver teaching
• To assess feedback and together with medical education team respond to student feedback.
• to provide teaching of the undergraduate curriculum.
• Those posts with a PGME role would also be to develop and support foundation doctors and their teaching skills.

The fellow’s involvement in medical education would involve a range of activities, including but not limited to:
• Coordination, delivery and development of teaching sessions and opportunities, small and large group tutorials
• skills based practical sessions
• bedside teaching and clinical skills teaching
• Contribution to OSCE examinations of students, will be required.
