Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Medical Secretary to join our team on a 22.5 hours part time, permanent basis. You will act as Medical Secretary to one of our Consultant Psychiatrists and others who become part of our medical team, i.e., trainees and our non-medical prescribers. Communicating with parents, staff and other professionals is an important task of this role.

We are proud to be part of the wider CAMH service in Dorset and all it has achieved in recent years. Currently our CAMHS community services are rated Good and our CAMHS inpatient unit is rated as Outstanding. We have been fast tracked by NHSE to deliver New Care Models providing a closer to home crisis home treatment service. We are also part of the national trailblazer to deliver Mental Health Support Teams in schools across 3 pilot sites in Dorset. In addition, NHSE have commissioned Dorset Healthcare to build a new state of the art 8 bed PICU.

We launched the CAMHS Gateway last year– this is a dedicated Assessment and Brief Intervention Service within the Bournemouth and Poole Area and is an extension of the existing community teams. The primary focus is on providing high quality clinical assessment of young people and families, as well as delivering brief, needs led, evidence based clinical interventions. The new service allows the extended teams to primarily focus on delivering evidence-based interventions in a timely way, therefore improving access times and reducing waits.

To act as secretary to the Consultant Psychiatrist and team including maintaining an electronic diary of appointments, taking messages as appropriate, drafting correspondence/replies and dealing with confidential information relating to patients and medical staff.

Contribute to the implementation and administration of computer data collection systems ensuring information is recorded accurately and on a regular and timely basis.

To ensure the provision of an effective and efficient secretarial and administrative support to the wider clinical team including dealing with telephone enquiries, relatives, GP’S social workers and other agencies maintaining good communication between all of the Child, Adolescent and Family Services.

To maintain and co-ordinate annual leave and study leave for the Consultant with the Team Leader ensuring the service is adequately covered.

To assist the team in obtaining and presenting information for teaching and research purposes.

To ensure outpatient appointments are made where necessary, including arranging home visits. This will also involve complying with DHUFT targets and protocols for access to services.
