Summary


The Royal Cornwall Hospital is the sole provider of Pathology services for Cornwall and is currently looking for a motivated, Specialist Biomedical Scientist, to become part of our team in the busy, professional and friendly Point of Care department.

The Point of Care department is based in the Clinical Chemistry area but covers all main disciplines of Pathology. The Point Of Care Testing (POCT) repertoire has grown significantly over the last 18 months. We currently look after equipment at 5 sites and our main site (RCHT) where your main base would be located. We have staff from several disciplines visiting these sites to supporting equipment implementation, validations, training and updates.

Point of care consist of a wide variety of devices. Our main services are Blood gases (Radiometer ABL90’s & EPOC’s), FBC+CRP (Horiba), Piccolo’s (metabolic & Liver panels), Urine meters (Siemens dipsticks & Pregnancy), and Glucose & Ketone (Nova) to name a few. POCT is a small but very busy team and the days can be variable and challenging in terms of work.

The team work a 9am-5:30pm day most days however flexibility is required to accommodate service user needs so a slightly earlier or later start may occasionally be required. We also have a POC van to assist with getting around the county.
