Summary
We are hiring for an Assistant Cook
32hrs a week @ £11.44ph
A talented Assistant Cook can bring to life a few ingredients that evoke memories of the past and bring warmth to an individual. Orchard Care Homes values its kitchen staff, and we reward colleagues with training, support and the freedom to cook up a storm.
Working with the Home Manager and care staff, you will create nutritious and balanced meals that cater for the individual needs of those living in the home. You will supervise a dedicated team to prepare daily meals, manage the food orders, stock levels and maintenance of vital equipment.
Main Duties
To assist in preparing, cooking and serving high quality meals which are appetising, nutritious and centred on residents’ preferences; taking into account any special dietary and allergen requirements.
Utilising the Orchard Care Home recipe book and Food Safety Management Policy to ensure consistent output levels are maintained. Help with the serving of meals for residents, be understanding of any specific food requirements and ensure everyone is treated with respect, dignity and given choice
To understand and comply with all statutory and legal requirements which are relevant such as HACCP, Health & Safety, COSHH, Environmental Health, all aspects of the Care Standards Act, have a clear understanding of Infection Prevention and Control policies, procedures and measures to maintain a safe environment throughout the home.
Ensure sufficient food stocks are ordered, receipted correctly and controlled through Orchard approved suppliers and that effective stock control is maintained, keeping wastage to a minimum.

Previous experience within a similar setting
The ability to work as part of a team
Knowledge of texture modified diets and food allergens - preferred
Knowledge of modified diets and creating specific meal plans to suit an individual’s needs - preferred
