The responsibilities of the Immobilisation Plant Manager

• Managing bookings of incoming consignments of waste by ensuring adequate storage capacity is available.
• Ensure appropriate compatibility testing is being completed with composite sampling being completed appropriately for all waste streams.
• Ensure the completion of start-up/shutdown checks are completed and the completion of FLT start ups have been checked by plant operatives.
• Feedback to the commercial and technical team when material has been under priced or incorrectly technically assessed.
• Ensure traceability of all waste by ensuring any material processed through plant is being completed.
• Ensure waste in plant storage bays are being appropriately stored in line with guidance’s.
• Liaise with suppliers to schedule disposal point slots.
• Liaise with 3rd parties to schedule outgoing loads.
• Ensure the loading of outgoing loads onto skips/tipper vehicles is conducted in a safe manner.
• Generate outdoing paperwork including determining component concentrations using laboratory analysis.
• Ensure all pre-start checks on plant and excavators are completed.
• Arrange the servicing of plant equipment.
• Monitor check sheets to ensure that materials are in good supply.
• Liaise with the site laboratory to ensure that all analysis’ are complete and compliant.
• Liaise with the Operations Manager
• Support the development of the treatment plant by being involved in development projects.
• Completion of low-risk maintenance activities
• Review of major maintenance works
• Ensure housekeeping is of high standards in the operational area.
• Ensure the permit to work system is followed.
• Promote a positive Health and Safety driven environment.
• Provide holiday cover for the Treatment Plant Chemist
• Lead, develop and strengthen the plant team.
• Maximise the performance of individuals through communication, motivation, and development co-ordinator regular perform ne reviews.
• Manage performance and capability issues taking an informal consultative and coaching approach initially.
• Be an advocate for all company policies and procedures.
• Work with the HR and training team to ensure low staff turnover.
• Develop employees.
• Maintain and keep up to date basic personnel and training records of each colleague on site.
• Handle chemicals as per COSHH sheets.

The successful Immobilisation Plant Manager must:

• Hold a HNC or Degree Level qualification in Chemistry or a similar related field.
• Have experience working in the hazardous waste sector.
• Be competent in Microsoft Office
• Be able to make decisions based on data, information and evidence.
• Be able to drive team performance and improve functional knowledge of the team through coaching.
