Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant position in Anaesthesia at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. The Royal Marsden is recognised worldwide for the quality of its cancer services. The Trust’s aim is to achieve excellence in cancer treatment and diagnosis, through partnership and collaboration. The Royal Marsden, with its partner the Institute of Cancer Research, provides a centre of excellence for research and development, education, treatment, and care in cancer, and is the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe. The Trust has a five-year business and service development strategy focused on developing and improving the provision of cancer care locally, nationally and internationally.

The Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine is looking to appoint a Locum Consultant to support expansion in surgical and pre-assessment services. This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative and supportive department of 38 Consultants, to contribute to the delivery of outstanding, evidence-based care to our patients at both the Chelsea and Sutton sites. The post will comprise of 9 PA’s for direct clinical care and 1 PA for supporting professional activity (SPA).

You must be able to demonstrate the following essential criteria: full registration with the General Medical Council, be on the Specialist register or within six months of a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) date at interview, a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists or hold equivalent qualifications.

1. The appointee will be expected to work flexibly to support the department in delivering exceptional care to adult patients undergoing a wide range of procedures at both the Chelsea and Sutton sites (including the Oak Cancer Centre), in line with established guidelines and policies. This may include weekend operating lists.
2. This post includes an on-call commitment of 1:20
3. Paediatric sessions would be desirable, depending on the skills of the appointee.
4. Attendance at departmental education and governance meetings is expected, as is a commitment to education and training of junior staff.
5. The appointee would be expected to participate in Continuing Medical Education to the level required by the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
6. The appointee will be given adequate time to take part in required audit activities.
7. Participation in annual appraisal and appropriate preparation for revalidation by the GMC is required.
