We are currently recruiting for a Purchasing Manager (Site Services) to join our friendly team at our Tarmac Tunstead Quarry and Cement Plant and also support other sites in the local area. As well as Buxton this role is easily accessible from Sheffield, Derby, Manchester, Stoke, Chesterfield, Stockport, Macclesfield, Congleton, Matlock, Leek, Whaley Bridge and the surrounding areas.

Main Responsibilities

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the role of Purchasing Manager (Site Services) is responsible for overseeing the purchase of site services across the Buxton area sites with a spend value of over £15m. You will also be accountable for monitoring and addressing the quality and compliance of services provided by contractors.

The role of Purchasing Manager (Site Services) will also be responsible for (not exhaustive):

  • Overseeing a large number of suppliers that provide services to Tarmac including hire of plant, vehicles and equipment; cleaning, laundry and welfare services; waste disposal; safety, health and environmental services; and civil and engineering services
  • Compliance with commercial contracts
  • Ensuring timely and efficient end to end purchasing processes, resolving issues that may arise
  • Managing the quality and suitability of the services provided
  • Supplier Performance Management to ensure suppliers meet their obligations
  • Ensuring competitive pricing and value for money
  • Providing analysis and statistics to support decision making
  • Controlling spend and minimising administrative workload
  • Sharing best practice to optimise performance and coaching other colleagues as required

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the role of Purchasing Manager (Site Services) will possess contractor procurement management experience gained working within a similar industry including manufacturing, heavy industry or site based environment.

Suitable candidates for the role of Purchasing Manager (Site Services) will have:

  • Strong working knowledge of end to end purchasing processes
  • Proven ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate, manage, effectively influence
  • Confidence to challenge appropriately
  • Ability to analyse data effectively and recommend appropriate actions
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks and priorities
  • Problem solving approach
  • Results driven – ensure right service, right time and right price
  • Strategic mindset to focus on long term optimisation
  • IT literate (including MS Excel)
  • CIPS qualification advantageous
