Summary


We have an exciting fixed-term opportunity for a Band 7 Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, experienced in adult neurology, dysphagia and communication, to join our Adult Community Speech & Language Therapy Service. The service is focused on providing excellent care in the community and in doing so is working on innovative and effective ways to deliver our services and work with our partners. The role involves bringing your specialist skills and knowledge to well-established teams across the service, providing additional resource to bring down waiting lists and reduce waiting times.



You will possess highly developed clinical skills and experience with an adult community caseload and have knowledge of multi-disciplinary working, evidenced based practice, training delivery and supporting student placement. You will be experienced and trained in managing dysphagia.

Job Overview
1. To provide a comprehensive, highly specialist clinical service to clients referred with communication and swallowing disorders
2. To be accountable for the direct delivery of services and patient care within a defined clinical area
3. To work closely with multi-disciplinary leads to ensure the delivery of high quality multi- disciplinary care and positive patient experience
4. To work with multi-disciplinary leads to deliver services that support skill sharing across professions and bandings and develops a competency driven, flexible and responsive workforce
5. To embed the principles of interdisciplinary working and cross skilling for all staff, including implementing competency frameworks
6. To develop key partnerships, working to ensure effective whole system working through effective communication and networking with other disciplines and by working across professional boundaries
7. To support with team leader responsibilities in their absence

Our community adult SLT service manages a varied caseload of adult acquired conditions presenting with a range of communication and swallowing difficulties. We see patients in their own homes, in nursing homes and in outpatient clinics as well as in intermediate care units and on the stroke ward at Crawley Hospital. We utilise face-to-face assessment and therapy and remote consultations via video and telephone.

We offer student placements as well as training to inpatient settings, work closely with our multidisciplinary team colleagues and ensure our involvement and representation as part of the Trust’s Specialist Services in Trust wide projects and developments.
