Summary

We have a new opportunity for an efficient and enthusiastic person to join the Burns and Plastics Occupational Therapy team as a Clinical Support Worker. The role will both clinical and administrative in nature, but you will be working within a clinical setting where you will be required to interact with patients on a daily basis. You will be a key player in the day to day running of our service and the support you offer to our clinicians and patients.

The Burns and Plastics Service is a regional leader for adult and children’s burns services in the East Midlands. We are a small, friendly team who work across both paediatrics and adult services, and are privileged to work with patients throughout their treatment journey from inpatient to outpatient, with a focus on scar management and rehabilitation.

This role will be based within the Splint Room at City Hospital Campus as this is our office space and team space, and we would need the successful candidate to work their hours ideally over 4 days of the week.

In this role you will need to demonstrate initiative, flexibility and skills related to a wide variety of clinical administrative and clerical tasks. Your main areas of work will be managing and coordinating diaries, booking appointments, producing GP prescription letters, answering the phone and fielding enquiries appropriately, and supporting the team and the service. You will be responsible for triaging some of our more simple referrals via our photographic communication system, ISLA care. You may also be required to act as a second person within some patient treatment sessions. Your daily tasks will be very varied as we cover a wide range of out-patient clinics across both campuses, in addition to providing ward cover for all burns and plastics patients at NUH residing for in-patient care.

Responsibilities will include competent use of a number of hospital systems so you can lead on daily clinic preparation, manage bookings, and maintain clinical equipment and stock management. Due to the nature of the services and potential vulnerabilities of the patient group, excellent communication skills are essential as you will liaise with the wider multidisciplinary team and a potentially vulnerable group of patients to help coordinate care.

The Burns and Plastics Occupational Therapy team are a small team that cover a diverse range of patients across both QMC and City Campus. We treat both paediatric and adult patients, and both in-patients and out-patients.

As part of our out-patient service we cover consultant clinics, dressings clinics, provide an outreach service, and also have daily out-patients within our OT diaries.

If you are a hardworking, caring, and efficient individual we would love to welcome you into our team! Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss the role further should you wish.

The Occupational Therapy service is part of the Therapies and Rehabilitation Services pathway, which is one of the pathways that together make up the Clinical Support Division at NUH. We are a diverse pathway of AHPs and support staff, employing over 600 staff, who works together to deliver the high quality care we aspire to. Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists.

We have a Chief AHP to lead us on our strategic direction, and many of the pathway leadership team have pathway AHP backgrounds to support our staff. There are also Practice Development Therapists to support career development for all staff.
