Summary

General responsibilities: To manage, appraise and provide professional supervision to junior medical staff as agreed between consultant colleagues and the medical/clinical director and in accordance with the Trusts policies and procedures To ensure that junior medical staff working with the post holder, operate within the parameters of the New Deal and are Working Time Directive compliant To undertake administrative duties associated with the care of patients To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively, and submit this promptly through the trusts clinical information systems To participate in service and business planning activity for the locality and, as appropriate, for the whole mental health service To participate in annual appraisal for consultants To regularly attend the monthly Borough Care Quality meeting To attend and participate in the academic program of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD program To maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval, and to abide by professional codes of conduct To work with local managers and professional colleagues in ensuring the efficient running of services, and share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management. To comply with the Trusts agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and to take an active role in the financial management of the service and support the medical director and other managers in preparing plans for services Clinical Responsibilities: Provide senior clinical advice and support to the daily triage, MDT and other regular clinical team meetings. Ensure that all referrals are triaged daily and responded to in a timely way Assessment of new patients and clinical supervision of assessments carried out by other team members Review complex needs patients to ensure appropriate care packages are put in place Mental Health Act related-work Domiciliary visits to provide assessment and treatment services as a member of the CMHT Domiciliary assessments in response to emergencies Occasional psychiatric assessments of residents who may be in crisis in another borough Ensure that physical health needs are addressed Review and monitoring of the caseload to ensure appropriate care packages are put in place and discharges facilitated to maintain patient flow Develop good working relationships with local GPs and other providers Provide mental health advice and support to GPs and primary care clinicians by surgery visits and other means, to assist patient management in the primary care setting Close liaison with the wards to facilitate admission and discharge planning Liaison with CRHTT, Psychiatric Liaison Services, AMHP services and Forensic Services in the borough Develop working relationships with local voluntary sector services in order to support and promote recovery Following the cross-cover protocol that has been agreed with another team or colleague which will make sure appropriate cover is in place during absence
