Summary

The School of Architecture in the Faculty of Technology, Design and Environment is looking to recruit a Research Fellow in Mechanical or Energy Engineering.

You will be responsible for:
- Work closely with the Architectural Engineering Research Group at OBU and the Technical Manager Product Development at Tata Steel UK to provide high-level research support
- Coordinate the planning, design, construction, setup, testing and breakdown of all research projects and testing needs as well as interpretation and outcomes of research & testing
- To deliver outcomes by, contributing towards the creation of reports and presentations to industry partners, funders and customers
Responsible for writing papers for publication and attend meetings and/or conferences
- Assist in the writing and presentation of funding applications
- Develop collaborative research with other individuals and groups in the School, University or externally as appropriate to the needs of the overall research programme
- Undertake specialist lectures/seminars
- Timely completion of work, reporting and analysing of results to agreed development plans
- Contribute to the supervision of PhD students if necessary
- Any other duties as required by the line manager/mentor within expectation of the appointed grade.

You should have:
- A PhD in Mechanical or Energy Engineering or other relevant subject area
- Prior working experience in Mechanical, energy, or other engineering related research or consultancy
- Knowledge and experience of testing environments and monitoring devices in an engineering context
- Experience with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques
- Proficiency with Matlab and Arduino or similar programming languages such C/C++, Python, and JavaScript
- Understanding of integrated systems
- Ability to organise and to meet deadlines
- A commitment to research and the customer benefit & value that can be demonstrated as a result
- Self-motivation and be resourceful and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Ability to make operational decisions relating to own research projects
- Experience in using specialist knowledge of research area to devise solutions to unpredictable and unexpected research outcomes
- Appropriate strategies for tackling different types of problems involving a synthesis of prior subject knowledge
- General sensitivity when dealing with confidential and data protection issues
- Experience as an independent researcher or post-doctoral researcher with at least one high quality publication as evidence of research excellence.

This role will not attract sufficient points to obtain a sponsored Skilled Worker visa under the points-based immigration system, and will be dependent on the candidate meeting one of the criteria to rely on tradeable points.
