• Responsible for the care of the patients on the ward.
• To deputise for the clinical sister in managing a team of nursing and support staff to achieve this.
• To be responsible for the care of a group of patients during the shift.
• To be one of a team of named nurses, caring for a particular group of patients.
• Assists in meeting the requirements of the Clinical Governance programme. pertaining to the ward.

• To assist in the assessment of care needs, development, delivery and implementation of programmes of care for an assigned patient group, using a validated model of nursing
• To implement appropriate practices in line with the policies of London North West Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH NHS Trust), to provide skilled/research based nursing care to meet the identified needs of patients and their relatives.
• To work to the agreed standards of care within LNWH NHS Trust, and in collaboration with the Senior Sister, monitor patient outcomes.
• To establish effective communications with medical colleagues and all health care professionals to ensure appropriate nursing input to patient care discussions in order to ensure safe practice.
• To be aware of the policies and philosophies of LNWH NHS Trust, including Health and Safety and ensure all actions are carried out within these guidelines.
• To assist the Senior Sister and Senior Nurse/Matron in maintaining a safe environment for staff, patients and relatives.
• To assist the Education, Learning and Development department in the implementation of nursing research/changes in clinical practice.
• Ensures effective participation in Clinical Governance initiatives and actively contributes to compliance with benchmarked standards for quality of clinical care.
