Geriatrics & Frailty Division is currently going through a process of change to ensure we meet the on-going needs of the older adult and to provide an excellent standard of care every time.

This is an ideal opportunity for you to bring your experience and vision to help us to deliver these changes.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Nurse with a passion for delivering high quality care in partnership with patients and their relatives putting the patients at the centre of our PRIDE values.

Ideally, this person will have a special interest in Medicines Management, End of life Care, and Dementia and will be willing to undertake lead nurse responsibility for this area of nursing and maintaining high standard of care.

In addition to the usual ward duties, the appointed Band 6 nurse will be released from duty on a regular basis to attend Patient Safety Summit meetings, and to complete ward based audits and training sessions for staff.

You will have a good understanding of safe medicines management, BHRUT's improvement plans in relation to medicines management, dementia strategy and CQC standards to ensure safe delivery of care.

You will be responsible for ensuring that the ward is up to date with national and local initiatives to identify & prevent poor medicines management, dementia Strategy standard, End Life Care and meeting our Gold standard framework and practise.

You will build strong links with the ward based pharmacist and work in collaboration to raise standards of medicines management on the unit through education.

You will represent the ward at monthly medicines management meetings, and complete reports on ward compliance to BHRUT standards. Study time will be facilitated to support you in this role.

You will be working with a dedicated team of staff, led by a Band 7 senior Sister who will provide you with training, mentorship and will support your development and career progression.

You will ensure that the care you deliver on the unit is of high quality, in line with our guidelines, which will assist with facilitating the smooth flow of medical patients from the Emergency Department and clinical assessment unit.

We provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. Most of our 7,800 permanent staff live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals and we operate from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London – more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

We’re pleased to be leading the way inreducing the time our patientswait to get the treatment they need. The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is one of eight to beaccredited as part of a national scheme; the Care Quality Commission has raised the ratings for urgent and emergency care at Queen’s and King George hospitals; and data released by NHS England showed that the Trust was the most improved in 2023 for reducing waits for emergency care.
