Summary


Applications for Biomedical Scientist posts are invited to join Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services (CWPS) at our Warwick site. Our site handles 30K histology cases and comprises of a team of 20 staff. We work closely with UHCW and support each other across the network which includes George Eliot hospital in Nuneaton.

Successful candidates must be HCPC registered as a Biomedical Scientist following completion of an appropriate degree and the IBMS registration portfolio. Applicants will be considered for a Trainee BMS position and will be supported through the IBMS registration portfolio and paid at Annex 21 75% of a band 5 until the portfolio is completed.

As a Biomedical Scientist in Pathology the post holder is responsible for the delegated tasks required for the delivery of a fit-for-purpose medical laboratory service analysing tissue samples to achieve the objectives of efficient and effective patient care, and effective resource management within the service. As a BMS in Histology you will rotate between the main laboratory (Embedding, Microtomy, QC), IHC and Dissection areas. Training will be given but a background knowledge in an NHS lab is desirable.

1. Perform daily routine and specialised diagnostic services on patient and environmental samples containing potentially infectious material. This will be done on a rotational basis using manual and automated techniques to exacting medical and scientific standards according to standard operating procedures
2. Perform daily interpretation of diagnostic investigations. Know how to proceed in the event of technical / analytical nonconformity and when to inform the line manager
3. Accurate and timely entry of data onto the laboratory computer system and/or automated analysers using a VDU and keyboard workstation
4. As appropriate record reports for authorisation in electronic form and / or verbally to persons authorised to receive them
5. Quality check outputs including maintaining necessary internal record
6. Participate in external and internal quality assurance schemes and vertical and horizontal audits as directed by senior staff.
