Summary


As a Biomedical Scientist in Pathology the post holder is responsible for the delegated tasks required for the delivery of a fit-for-purpose medical laboratory service analysing and reporting on, blood, urine, faeces and other body materials to achieve the objectives of efficient and effective patient care, and effective resource management within the hospital.

Subject to contract, training and competence assessment, the post holder may discharge analytical duties either working alone or as part of a small team.
1. Perform daily routine and specialised diagnostic services on patient and environmental samples containing potentially infectious material. This will be done on a rotational basis using manual and automated techniques to exacting medical and scientific standards according to standard operating procedures.


1. Perform daily interpretation of diagnostic investigations. Know how to proceed in the event of technical / analytical nonconformity and when to inform the line manager.


1. Accurate and timely entry of data onto the laboratory computer system and/or automated analysers using a VDU and keyboard workstation.


1. As appropriate record reports for authorisation in electronic form and / or verbally to persons authorised to receive them.


1. Quality check outputs including maintaining necessary internal records

The role is based in haematology and blood transfusion at GEH they will be an expectation to rotate to other sites when required.

The role involves issue of high quality blood results for haematology, blood transfusion and coagulation. It will also involve reporting films and being competent in morphology.

This role also involves issue safely blood products to patients. It will involve ensuring haematology and blood transfusion quality management systems are maintained. Staff will be expected to carry out audits.

It is essential for the successful candidate to participate in 24/7 shifts
