Summary

We are looking for a personal care assistant to support our client in the Colchester area. Our client is a young man who has Autism Spectrum Disorder and requires a part-time carer to assist him in daily household tasks, such as cooking, cleaning and menu planning to aid him with independent living. As part of this role you will be required to provide support to the client whist he socialises within the local community, as he regularly likes to attend social events.

This role will amount to 16 hours per week, these hours are to be carried out on the following days - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The purpose of this role is to enable the client to live a full and active independent life as possible. You be required to encourage the client to identify a variety of social and leisure activities they would like to do, whilst assisting in the planning and organisation of these activities, ensuring that the client is as involved in this process as possible.

This role requires you to have excellent active listening and communication skills and enthusiasm for assisting the client to live their life to the full. You must be trustworthy with an empathetic personality in order to interact socially and create a rapport with the client. You will be expected to be respectful of the client's privacy and dignity and be self-motivated to complete tasks to the highest of standards.

It is desirable for applicants to have a QCF NVQ Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 2 as well as previous one-to-one experience in the care sector. This can either be paid or voluntary work and family care experience can be considered. A full UK driving licence is desired but not essential.

- An enhanced DBS disclosure is required for this vacancy (expense to be met by HomeCareDirect)
- Be patient, reliable / non-judgemental / caring / responsible / compassionate
- Committed to confidentiality and to treat the client with dignity and respect
- Understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Organisational skills to plan social and leisure and social activities with the client
- Prepared to commit to long term care for one client in a 'person-centred' way
- Willing to be trained to CQC standards to meet the client's needs

This vacancy is for a personal assistant to join our client’s support package to support them in their own home. We will be your legal employer on behalf of the client and you will not be asked to support other clients. All of our contracts are for permanent positions with a 6 month probationary period.
