Job Vacancy: Special Education Needs Disabilities Coordinator (SENCO)

Overview:
BCI seeks a qualified and experienced Special Education Needs Disabilities Coordinator (SENCO) to join our dynamic team. The SENCO will play a pivotal role in ensuring adequate support and resources for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) within our institution.

Key Responsibilities:
Conduct EHCP reviews and assessments for students with SEND.
Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with SEND.
Collaborate with teachers, support staff, parents, and external agencies to address the diverse needs of students with SEND.
Provide guidance and support to teaching staff on inclusive teaching strategies and differentiation.
Act as a liaison between BCI and external agencies, including local authorities and educational psychologists.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEND provision and make recommendations for improvement.
Keep abreast of current legislation, policies, and best practices in SEND education.
Contribute to the development of whole-school SEND policies and practices.
Become an integral part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and participate in decision-making.

Requirements:
Qualified teacher status (QTS) and relevant teaching experience.
Minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in a SENCO role.
Excellent understanding of EHCP processes and SEND legislation.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external agencies.
Commitment to inclusive education and equal opportunities for all students.
Willingness to undergo a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.
Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced educational environment.
Additional Information:

The position will be offered in the first instance on a 6-month probation period, with the possibility of extension based on performance.
The SENCO will be expected to obtain a specific postgraduate qualification within three years - the National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination (NASENCO).
